Almost Halloween!

I love Halloween, I always have. I’m not able to decorate this year *sniffles* because of having to do so much to the new (used) truck we bought, but that doesn’t mean I won’t enjoy myself when the kiddies come around for Trick or Treating!

I’ve also been busy, working on three books. Timeless Sands, which will be a collaboration with Dawn Montgomery and Trinity Blacio. Shutter Bug, the start of a new shifter series. AND Book 4 of the UGS Constellation Series (it doesn’t have a name yet!)

blindsidedIn the mean time, I’ve put up Blind Sided for free! And I’ll keep it as free for as long as I can. I’ll be working on the next book in that series whenever time permits! It’s the same story (with a bit of revisions as I was able to add to it) that was in the Romancing the Sweet Side anthology from last year. And I had fun making the cover for it, but I think I’ll let the pro’s do the rest of the covers! LOL

Lost in a forest, stumbling her way through a swirling void of white, Chrissy tries to find her way home. She’s running, but she can’t remember who is chasing her or why.

Found by mythical creatures, Chrissy is convinced that she’s merely dreaming. Shifters, fauns, and fairies… Oh my! Creatures out of mythology surround her, helping her to retrieve her memory, but at what cost?

Fenric is inexorably drawn to Chrissy; her scent, her laugh, and the feather light touch of her soft skin. His secrets are about to be exposed, in order to save Chrissy. Will he jump through the shadows, endangering all he holds dear, or will he hide in the darkness?

fortmanebookI’ve also added the Novella, Genesis as it’s own book!!! I’m super excited about it, as it tells the very start of the whole escapades, and gives a bit more back history for Mestrock and Chase!

Slow and insidious, evil begins to move undetected. It tempts good men to do unspeakable acts.

Mestrock was a beloved son, a twin, and a cherished brother. Deep within him grew an evil so virulent it sent him screaming down a trail of despair and destruction. He embraces that darkness and allows it to become his Master.

Turock “Chase Ricter” Gav’rin is the light to his brother Mestrock’s darkness. Quickly outshining his twin, he is the pride and joy of his family. Now, he must break the family ties and hunt down his own flesh and blood.

Not long after being assigned as the Commander of the UGS Constellation, Chase is given orders that will forever change his world, his life, and his very beliefs. How will he ever survive the emotional, mental, and physical strife of what is to become his greatest assignment?

Where did the time go!?

Whew! It’s July 20th and the month is nearly over! Where has the time gone? This summer is just FLYING by for me, almost too fast. I’ve been super busy with several projects and yes, I admit, I’ve fallen behind on a few.

In recent news, I’ve FINALLY managed to release the long awaited boxed set! *insert cheering here!* The UGS Constellation Boxed Set includes books 1 – 3 AND has a bonus novella! Genesis: A Prequel. I’m so excited to hear what everyone thinks about it!

Additionally, and this isn’t as good, my health has taken a turn for the not-so-good. It’s hard for me to sit for extended periods of time – we’ve ruled out Lupus and Rheumatoid but the Doctor is leaning heavily toward Fibromyalgia – and that makes writing difficult. So, I sincerely apologize for taking so long in getting the books out there, it’s truly not my intent, but I’ll be pushing through and writing as swiftly as I’m able to!

I’m so freaking excited!!!! First of all, it’s FRIDAY! *pulls out the balloons and party favors* AND it’s the 4th of July weekend! (I have the thunder coat ready for Penny, and waiting to see how Val does with the fireworks!) What are your plans for the weekend? I’m thinking we’re just going to be staying home and smoking some awesome eye of round roasts cut into steaks… I think. I’m not sure. But I DO know that I’ll be working on the various WIPs I have going, including the new series.

Second… Genesis: A Prequel is in the FINAL ROUND of edits! *chair dancing* I’m hoping my poor editor (who has had some family emergencies crop up) will be able to get it back to me so I can release the box set for the 4th!!

A maelstrom of activity!

It’s been a hellacious two weeks, good but still exhausting. Driving from Detroit, MI to Nashville, TN, stopping for a night, then driving on to an hour outside of Orlando, FL for a few days and returning via the same route in a little Dodge Dart was trying (they’re really NOT comfortable on long trips! I think my poor butt cheeks are STILL numb! LOL) but it was great to see my dear friends Kristina, and Laura, and my birth dad and step mom. I know my son and nephew loved it. (Especially when we went to Merritt Park and Daytona Beach!)

While the trip was long (9-10 hours driving each section, sometimes longer because of traffic, accidents, and construction) it was still a nice drive (until we came through Ohio on the way home in a snow storm!). Although, I’ll never take another Dodge Dart! It was a great car, phenomenal on gas but not so much on the body! My poor buttocks are STILL numb! LOL

Being able to watch my son and nephew playing in the ocean and spending time with their Grandpa was excellent. Something I’ll never forget is the huge grin on Dad’s face when we arrived finally. Granted, we got there late at night but he was still awake and anxiously waiting for us.

The one down side was missing my husband, he couldn’t go with us since he didn’t have any vacation time. (sad sigh). Hopefully next time he can join us!

I’ve taken this last week off of writing as well, I needed the time to recoup as well as my day job being a PITA. They decided to “upgrade” the program we use to process orders, which means it kept crashing on us! I’ve never enjoyed that annoying spinning wheel, and now I absolutely detest it!

On that note; I’m hoping that I can get back into the swing of things this week. Genesis is flowing smoothly at nearly 30k words so far! I’m hoping to have it finished quickly and sent off to the editor by the middle of next month.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! I’m going to enjoy my time with some dear friends, and if you’re in the Westland area, you should swing by the Paperbacks & Things bookstore where we’ll be having our monthly book club meeting! (It’s also where I’ll be joining the illustrious SE Smith and   KS Adkins on the 30th from 1-4 PM for a book signing!

Busy busy busy!

Oh so busy!

Things have been so chaotic here lately! I started a new EDJ (Evil Day Job) in January, which I love, but they’ve been adding more tasks to my day.

I’ve been busily working on my newest UGS book – Genesis: A Prequel – that will be added into the box set which I am hoping to have done by the end of the month. It’s set to be a novella but we all know what that goes! It could very well turn into a full length novel! It’s up to Mestrock and the rest of the gang to tell me when this one is complete. Oh, did I fail to mention that? So excited about it that I forgot to mention it! I’ll be putting the first three (Yes I said first three, because I DO plan on writing more!) of the UGS Constellation books into a box set! The wonderful Dawn Montgomery made the cover for me…

Isn’t it sexy!?

Thanks to my dear husband, Mr. -Sexy-Man, I have a TON of new swag! I finally have some pens, which I’ve been wanting to get for a while but I wasn’t able to. They’re nothing uber fancy, but I really like them.

Pretty pens!

And I have these nifty business cards that are printed on the front AND the back!

Spiffy business cards!

I still have some of the old rack cards and of course there’s the bookmarks I make. This time I have a limited supply of *actual* photographs of the first three books in the UGS Constellation series, limited being only 80 of them.

As for where I’ll be, I’m going to make it to 2 conventions: Lori Foster’s #RAGT16 down in Cincinnati and the Glass City Author Even in Toledo. Unfortunately, I can’t make it over to Eve Langlais’ even *major pout* or any others as I just can’t swing it this year. BUT on a plus side, I’ll be doing a book signing with *swoons* SE Smith AND KS Adkins here in Detroit! (Paperbacks and Things: 8027 N Wayne Rd., Westland, MI 48185) I hope to see y’all there on April 30th between 1 and 4 pm! I’ll be bringing this pretty swag with me!

Here’s a quick excerpt!

Something outside her window flashed. Kynan? All she needed to do was call his name. She’d seen him so many times before when he thought she couldn’t feel him. He claimed he’d never leave her. She wanted him there, so much, but she needed to get rid of Dante first. Get rid of the biggest problem before adding another one to her life.

“Lexa, stop thinking and tell me what’s bothering you. Or who is bothering you?”

What did he mean by that? “Get out.” She brought her knee up, connecting with his groin. When he crumpled, she shoved him from her bedroom. With her roommate’s help, she booted him out of the apartment. She allowed herself to breathe. Dante left without much of a fight, which unnerved her.

Vanessa engaged the deadbolt and chain. “You did it.”

“Why do I feel like shit for it?” Lexa collapsed on the floor. She closed her eyes, and a vision of Kynan formed in her mind. She’d told herself a hundred times she didn’t need him.

He’d be her downfall.

“Kynan.” His name came out in a whisper. She opened her eyes. It was time for a reunion.

“Kynan?” Vanessa snorted. “What are you talking about?”

“You called me.” Kynan stood in the doorway to her bedroom. His button-down shirt molded to his chiseled chest. His blue eyes glittered, and a smile curled on his lips. He crossed the room to where she sat and dropped to his knees. “Hello, beautiful.”

“Holy shit,” Vanessa shouted. She slapped Lexa’s shoulder. “Please tell me this is the guy you had on the side.” She offered her trembling hand. “My name is Vanessa and I’m her roommate. I can lock my door, I’m discreet, and I sure hope you’ve got a brother.”

Kynan appeared just as he’d said. He relieved her. She rose to her feet and balled her hands.

Don’t reach for him. Don’t let him know I still love him.

“I’ve got…something to do.” Vanessa jumped up and slipped past Lexa to her room. “I’ll have my music on. Good night, Kynan.”

Kynan watched Vanessa leave the room. His smile widened. “I take it you haven’t told her about me?”

“You didn’t exactly come up in conversation.” Not often and never by name. She hadn’t expected Vanessa to be able to see him. She shivered, and her nipples beaded beneath her bra. The man embodied sex and sin. From his ebony hair drooped over his forehead, to his toned legs and all the sexy muscled male in between…he oozed power. Would he be interested in the sexual games she played? Would he be willing to dominate her? He’d been hidden for so long, she wondered if he even cared about her.

“You’re thinking too hard.” He took both her balled hands in his. “Breathe, Lex. The monster is gone.” He kissed her knuckles and led her back to the bedroom. “I’ve missed you.”

The monster was gone? Wasn’t he a monster too? She shook her head. At least the vampire before her cared about her. Caring was better than nothing.

When she’s not writing the stories in her head, Megan Slayer can be found luxuriating in her hot tub with her three vampire Cabana boys, Javier, Luke and Jeremy. She has the tendency to run a tad too far with her muse, so she has to hide in the head of her alter ego, but the boys don’t seem to mind.

When she’s not obsessing over her whip collection, she can be found picking up her kidlet from school. She enjoys writing in all genres, but writing about men in love suits her fancy best. The cabana boys are willing to serve, unless she needs them. She always needs them. So be nice to Javier or he will bite–on command.

She also masquerades under the name Wendi Zwaduk and is published through Loose ID Publishing, Liquid Silver Books, MLR Press, Resplendence Publishing, Totally Bound Publishing, Ellora’s Cave, Changeling Press and Decadent Publishing.

The power of the review…

I read all of my reviews, yes even the bad ones. Some say that I shouldn’t, that it can be detrimental to my confidence as a writer, and I do admit that sometimes it can be hard too swallow the bad reviews. However, they ARE important. Just on Amazon alone, a book with several reviews will be spotlighted… Garnering out more notice by other readers.

From What I’ve been told, the NY Times and USA Today best settlers lists take into account the number of books sold as well as the number of reviews.

I understand that not everyone wants the responsibility of writhing one, that they feel they’re pointless and a chore that they aren’t going to add to themselves. Sometimes, I don’t like leaving them myself, but I because there might be an off chance of the author reading it and it helping them our even making thier day all the better… To more that’s more than enough reason to write one. Hell, even just a simple “it was a good book. I’d recommend out too my friends” is more than adequate.

The worst review I’ve received to date was, “WTF (spelled out of course) did I just read”. I wish the person would have added why they felt that way, but alas, they didn’t. And I’m not the type to pester rearers for an explanation (unless I happen to know them) as I’ve heard too many horror stories of the author being attacked for dating to all questions.

However, I’ve been blessed with far more 4 & 5 star reviews… And yes, I love to share them everywhere. I don’t do it to brag or rub out into everyone’s faces, but more as a way to try and spread the word and thank the reviewer for the review. It’s my way of thanking them, a virtual hug of sorts.

Now, bye best review I’ve received was one that has a rather funny story behind it. You see, once a month my book club, a group of us ladies, meet and discuss anything book related. Someone mentioned an author I’d never heard of, JD Robb. When I asked who it was, and mentioned that a reader had compared me to her.

There was stunned silence followed by demands too see the review. (All of the ladies know that i write, as does another. Kelli Summers). I rushed to pull the review up on my phone (and yes I’ll share it at the end) which soon made the trip front hand too hand as everyone read it.

Sooo… My tension is mounting, concern growing like an avalanche hovering on the precipice of a cataclysmic downfall… No one is taking… No one is filling me in on what the big deal was, and I could tell that out was huge but i had no idea WHY it was.

Finally, the last person read it and handed my phone back. That proverbial pin dropped and snapped my nerves, “Ok… Someone talk to me.”

I’d opened the flood gates as everyone started talking at once. “Don’t you know who she is?” Well, no, I wasn’t familiar with that name, or I wouldn’t have asked.. lol

I was asked if I blog yet, and when I confirmed that I do, I was informed that I needed to share this one.

Eventually I was able to finally pry out who JD Robb is, and I about fainted! For those that aren’t aware… JD Robb is Nora Roberts’ pen name! I was compared to one of the best selling authors ever and one of my absolute idols!

Now, please excuse me while I go pick myself up off the floor and stare at the walls with a silly little grin on my face.

2015 in review

The stats helper monkeys prepared a 2015 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 870 times in 2015. If it were a cable car, it would take about 15 trips to carry that many people.

Book Three is finally here! (Warning: Steamy content inside!)

The long awaited book three has FINALLY hit the shelves. I’ve been working diligently on it, and been bombarded by life, but it’s finally here!

You can purchase your copy at most eBook retailers, and yes, once I can I will be creating them in paperback!

I want to first wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! I hope this year is an exceptional one for you all, and that all of your dreams come true! I know it’s been a roller coaster for me this year; with so many sad tidings in the family, but with wonderful accomplishments as well.

This book took an exceedingly long time to write, as it pulled me in so many directions. From naming the main character after my dear mother, to twists and turns that even I wasn’t expecting. I sincerely hope that everyone loves it as much as I do!

Now for some fun fanning off self teasers that a wonderful reader built for me!

Now that I’ve captured your attention, I’m sure someone will have some icy water to shower in, I wanted to take a moment and mention what I’m working on in the future.

I’ve had a LOT of speculation and questions about Chase and Mestrock; what drove them to the paths they’re on? Why is Chase the one that’s sent after his own brother? Couldn’t they have sent someone else to hunt him down? What’s with all of the clones?

Instead of trying to answer these questions one at a time, I’ve decided to work on a novella that will explain all of these things and more! I’ve already gotten about 10,000 words into it, and I am working hard to get it finished quickly!

After that, I have been asked to participate in a FANTASTIC box set! A Wicked Halloween Paranormal Romance Box Set! There are several fantastic author’s including: Gwen Knight, CE Black, Linda Thomas-Sundstrom, Chelsea Crumbaugh, Debbie Herbert, Kiki Howell, Charlie Daye, Phoenix Johnson, Linsey Hall, Bonne Elizabeth Adams Reeves, and Hope Welsh, to name a few! It will be a Halloween set, so look for it next year!

I’m also working on the next in the UGS Series, as well as a book set with Trinity Blacio and Dawn Montgomery!

I’ll see you all in the New Year! Have a wonderful holiday!

It’s been a long road working on this one, but in the mean time, I’ve been blessed enough to be asked to be part of an anthology! More on that in a minute.

The next big news, and I’m not above begging, is that I’ve been nominated for an award! Squeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m up for Favorite Sci-Fi Book of 2015!!! Please go and vote for me! puppy dog eyes Please, please, please!
